NEWS FROM PREMIER INN

Premier Inn reveal just what the nation wear to bed

A keen one in ten Brits get into their bed clothes as soon as they get in from work, with the average Brit donning their favourite pyjamas at precisely 9.11pm according to new research from the UK's best loved hotel chain, Premier Inn.

The hotel chain polled over 2,000 adults on their sleepwear habits and revealed that just under half the nation (48%) are at their happiest when in their pyjamas with a further comfortable 23% of the nation admitting to having spent the entire weekend in their PJs on more than one occasion.

The poll by Premier Inn revealed British ladies have opted for a more laid back approach to their sleep attire, with 17% of the women polled admitting to wearing an 'old' nightie or t-shirt. Only one in twenty women opt for a pretty nightie or camisole set, whilst 18% of the men polled wear pyjamas and the rest choosing to wear just boxer shorts and a t-shirt.

It seems that the women polled had good intentions when they first met their partner to wear more attractive sleep wear, but on average, eight months into the relationship women become more relaxed and replace their pretty camisoles for scruffy pyjamas – with an honest 39% of women said they are past caring what their other half thinks of their sleep wear.

In fact, the only time we tend to make an effort in our night attire is when staying at a hotel with 34% of respondents admitting to taking their best nightwear if they are staying away from home. A further one in five go out and buy brand new sleepwear if they have to stay in a hotel.  A quarter of those said it’s because it’s usually a special occasion and a paranoid 15% said they want respectable nightwear in case they get spotted by hotel staff.

A spokesman for Premier Inn said: ‘’We think it's great Brits have a casual and laidback approach to their nightwear. For many, it is the only time you can be safe in the knowledge that no one will be concerned about what you're wearing and most importantly, feeling comfortable in your sleeping attire is certain to help towards a great night's sleep.

Many adults view staying in hotels as a real treat and often a hotel stay can be coinciding with a special occasion so it’s nice that people are making an effort when it comes to what they wear to bed.’’
The study also found that 30 per cent of men would turn their nose up to a woman who wore a floor length nightie to bed. Other bedtime garments that were off limits in the bedroom include a cartoon character night shirt (10%) and an old football shirt (10%).

Women also revealed that novelty boxer shorts, pyjamas with characters on and striped pyjamas were also deemed a no-no.

NEWS FROM PREMIER INN

RECESSION SEES BUSINESS EXPENSE CLAIMS SOAR, HONEST

British workers are claiming more expenses than ever before during the recession, with claims predicted to total an extra £12.5 billion1 this year says a report released this week.

However, ‘Joe Public’ is overwhelmingly honest, with only 2 in 10 sneaking through personal items on their claims – the rise is due to workers ensuring every receipt is submitted, as we keep a closer eye on our pennies.

Premier Inn’s Business Expenses Index1 polled British workers on how their attitude claiming their expenses has changed over the last 12 months. It found one in four Brits is claiming more than ever before - an extra £576pa on average - as they’re increasingly conscious of claiming everything owed.

30% of workers also revealed they have become more concerned about paying out for expenses with personal cash or credit cards as they try to manage their own finances.

Meanwhile, claiming back business expenses is a time consuming job for employees, taking on average 12 hours a year to calculate - or £3.4billion a year in man hours across British businesses.

Premier Inn spokesperson, Luke Goggin says, “The cost of doing business - such as fuel, food and travel – is on the rise so Brits have become more conscious of doing their expense claims thoroughly and on time. British employees and employers need a way to manage expenses more easily. That’s why Premier Inn has created the Business Account Card, a great expense management system to help improve this.”

The Premier Inn Business Account Card makes it easy for business travellers to stay at any of the Premier Inn hotels nationwide. Business guests can use their Business Account Card to pay for accommodation, meals and meeting rooms, allowing company expenses to be handled easily and efficiently. It also allows for flexible management and control of their travel expenses, working like a charge card for customers to book, guarantee and pay for their accommodation, meals and meeting rooms.

Business expert Saira Khan, who is commenting on the Index, says “Anything that makes it easier to keep track is a great idea to ensure British businesses – or employees - aren’t losing money.”

PREMIER INN EXPENSES INDEX: KEY FACTS & FIGURES

Who’s claiming the most?
Regionally, it’s workers in the South West that most conscious of claiming what's theirs – claiming 51% more than last year. And, nationwide, workers in the media, leisure and sport industries have made the biggest increase in claims – 35% more than last year.

And for what?
Travel and accommodation ranked highest in the breakdown of what people are claiming on their business expenses, with a total of almost £1,000 per year (£83 per month) claimed back by employees. 37% of workers said the recession means they are travelling more in order to win business or get work.

Second to this was food and drink, coming in at almost £38 per month, followed by phone bills (£24 per month) and entertaining clients at £21. 2% of Brits even claim for a second home – at up to £250 per month.

In addition to the expected, Premier Inn’s Business Expenses Index also uncovered a selection of weird and wonderful claims Brits had to put through on their business expenses, including: the services of a camel, a number of sick buckets, two golden human statues and even an aeroplane.

2. Average hourly wage (£13 according to ONS 14 November 2008) x 12 (average number of hours a year it takes to calculate business expenses) x number of UK employed (29,000,000, according to ONS 22 April 2009)

BRITISH SEASIDE TRADITIONS IN DANGER OF DYING OUT
Donkey rides, fish & chips on the pier and even Kiss Me Quick hats in danger of becoming extinct

British seaside traditions are in danger of dying out according to research released today (Sunday 24 May 2009). As a result, a new initiative by Britain’s largest budget hotel chain Premier Inn is encouraging British parents to ensure their kids don’t miss out on the childhood holiday memories they enjoyed, this Bank Holiday and beyond.

The recent trend for families to holiday abroad has seen British kids miss out on holiday activities their parents enjoyed in their childhood, according to the study by Premier Inn.

Recent years have seen British families visit the beaches of Spain (24%), France (11%) and America (12%) over British shores. Therefore, 92% of young children surveyed have never ridden a donkey at the sea side, 66% have never eaten fish and chips on the beach, 59% have never built a sandcastle on a British beach and 61% haven’t collected shells with their parents.

As a result, Premier Inn is launching a campaign to put the ‘Great’ back into Great British holidays with a series of initiatives this Summer. It has worked with family travel expert, Jane Anderson, to compile a guide to the best family attractions at the seaside towns British parents say they loved best as kids. It can be accessed at www.premierinn.com

Families can stay at Premier Inn for as little as £12 per person per night. Rates start from just £50 per room, per night for up to two adults and two children (aged 15 years and under).

For a Great Day Out, Premier Inn offers guests the chance to enjoy Two for One and Kids go Free offers at top visitor attractions when they stay at our hotels. To choose your day out, pick from over 800 Great Days Out including theme parks, stately homes and aquariums. See www.premierinn.com for further information.

Premier Inn’s Head of Great British Breaks, Steve Conway, says “Now’s the perfect time for families to avoid the Eurozone and explore the best Britain has to offer.”
Premier Inn is the UK’s largest and fastest-growing hotel brand with 573 budget hotels in the UK.

The Institute of Customer Service (ICS) is the professional body for customer service whose primary purpose is to lead customer service performance and professionalism.
The ICS launched the UK Customer Satisfaction Index (UKCSI) in 2007 and it is repeated every six months. This latest UKCSI is based on a sample of 24,000 adults surveyed online in late 2008.
It measured 20 individual factors of customer satisfaction that can be grouped into five attributes: professionalism, problem solving, timeliness, quality/ efficiency and easy to do business with.
Each of these factors is weighted according to how important customers said they were in the ICS research Customer priorities: what customers really want and the weighted satisfaction scores are used to produce the Index. This makes the scores exceptionally robust as they are not simply a percentage of respondents who answered a question in the positive or negative – they are derived from a weighted index of multiple questions.
The UKCSI results are determined on a geographically and demographically representative sample of UK adults and data is collected for all organisations with a high market share in each segment of the private sector and the main players in the public sector.

The UKCSI has been welcomed by BSI British Standards. It says: “We believe it is an important step in improving customer satisfaction in the UK as well as a useful tool for consumers and business. Customer satisfaction is a key area of standardisation for BSI and our own work in this area potentially assists organisations to improve their position in the index.”

PREMIER INN UNVEILS PLANS FOR
BRITAIN’S FIRST FLOATING BUDGET HOTEL
- GUARANTEED ‘SEA SICKNESS FREE’!

Buying a barge or joining the Royal Navy are no longer the only ways to sleep on the water, as Premier Inn today unveils plans for its innovative ‘Floatel’ (floating budget hotel) - a first for the British budget hotel industry.

Britain’s largest and *best budget hotel chain aims to build the ‘Floatel’ in Hartlepool Marina during 2009. It will be the first time a budget hotel has been purpose-built on water. Premier Inn chiefs say that the planned hotel will offer the same quality and value of its other 556 hotels – but with the added benefit of a waterfront view.

As well as having a ‘Good Night Guaranteed’, guests would be sure to avoid sea sickness because the hotel’s special design means it will float vertically with the tide; while the horizontal movement will be restricted by sleeved piles driven into the marina.

And anyone arriving late at night wouldn’t need a boat trip in order to check-in: the waterfront hotel will be linked to an existing Premier Inn on the quayside by a pedestrian ramp and an external platform lift.

The ‘Floatel’ is needed because there is a growing demand for additional hotel accommodation in the Hartlepool Marina area but little viable building space on-land. The new hotel will have 54 bedrooms, each able to accommodate two adults and two children under 16, and will feature ensuite bathroom, TV and Internet access, as is standard in all Premier Inns.

The proposed development will contribute to both the re-development of the area, and the creation of approximately 25 jobs. Premier Inn’s Property Director, Mark Anderson, says, “As Britain’s leading hotel company, we’re always looking for new ways to ensure we have great hotels; wherever they’re needed.”

NEWS FROM PREMIER INN

Premier Inn launches it’s first fully self check-in hotel

‘Speedy’ check-in reduces wait to 1 minute

The UK’s largest hotel chain, Premier Inn, has announced that they are launching their first fully self check-in hotel at St Mary’s Gate, Sheffield, reducing check-in time to under a minute for guests.

The self check-in automated pods have already been successfully trialled at the London King’s Cross Premier Inn; they allow guests to take complete control of their own booking when they arrive at the hotel. The check-in process currently takes an average of 8-10 minutes, but the new technology employed by Premier Inn will dramatically cut this time down.

Customer experience at Premier Inn will be even smoother as workstations will be housed in the reception area and manned by team members solely dedicated to helping guest enquiries. The kiosks self check-in will improve customer experience at Premier Inn as it will manage the more formal element of the check-in procedure, leaving the Premier Inn team free to focus on the needs of their guests.

Bob Cotton, Chief Executive of the British Hospitality Association commented, "Its great to see Premier Inn investing in innovative technology. These kiosks will undoubtedly increase the level of service offered by Premier Inn - delivering a fast, efficient and speedier experience at check-in."

Sarah Simpson, Product and Service Manager for Premier Inn commented; ‘Premier Inn checks in over 23,000 guests every day across the UK, and as the UK’s leading hotel brand we continually innovate to meet the changing needs of our guests. Feedback has shown that business travellers like the time saving benefits that the kiosks provide, whilst leisure guests benefit not only from this but also from the increased accessibility, interaction and level of good service they have with team members at the guest workstation.’

The Sheffield St. Mary site is now open to the public and is located on Young Street, St Marys Gate. The new hotel will feature 126 bedrooms and rooms start from just £56 per room, per night and can be booked by visiting premierinn.com
